When Is the Best Time to Sell a Campervan?
The UK campervan market is seasonal, and timing can add or subtract a couple of thousand pounds. Here's when to sell for the best price.
Timing won't make a bad van sell, but it can easily add or subtract a couple of thousand pounds. The UK campervan market is seasonal, and selling at the right moment means more buyers, more competition for your van and a better price.
Spring is the golden window
Demand for campervans peaks as the weather warms up. From around February, buyers start planning summer trips, and by April and May good vans get snapped up quickly. If you can time your listing for the spring, you're selling into the strongest market of the year. Prices and sale speeds are both at their best.
Summer stays strong, autumn cools
Through the summer months there are still plenty of motivated buyers — families, festival-goers and holidaymakers. As autumn arrives, demand tapers off. Vans listed in October and November often sit longer and attract more speculative offers, because buyers know the season is ending and can afford to wait.
Winter: the slow season
Between December and early February, the market is at its quietest. Serious buyers still exist, but there are fewer of them and they expect a deal. If you don't need to sell now, waiting until spring is usually worth it — the same van can attract markedly better offers.
Match the van to the market
Some vans buck the trend. A well-insulated, winterised van with heating appeals to year-round campers. A large family motorhome may sell best just before the school summer holidays. Think about who's buying your particular van and when they're looking — then search the current listings to see what's moving.
Work around your MOT and deadlines
Practical timing matters too. A van with an MOT due in two months is easier to sell now than in six weeks' time, when buyers will factor in the re-test. Likewise, if you're buying a new van and part-exchanging, doing both deals together can save you money on both sides — see the part exchange guide.
The best time to sell is when the buyer pool is biggest. In the UK, that means spring — and spring comes around every year.
One more thing: price seasonally
If you must sell in winter, price accordingly. A realistic winter price with a "new season, new adventures" angle still attracts the serious buyers. When you're ready, list your van and match your timing to the market.
