Writing a Campervan Advert That Actually Sells
Photos get the click, but the words do the selling. Here's how to write a campervan advert that turns browsers into enquiring buyers.
A campervan advert has one job: to turn interest into an enquiry. Photos get the click, but the words do the selling. Here's how to write an advert that makes buyers pick up the phone.
Lead with the essentials
Put the facts buyers actually search for at the top of your description — make and model, year, base vehicle, engine, mileage, fuel, transmission, and number of seats and berths. If it's a Fiat Ducato with a 2.3-litre diesel, say so. Buyers scan, and the ones who can't find the basics move on.
Sell the lifestyle, back it with specifics
Describe the layout as it is: "rear lounge with two rear-facing sofas that convert to a double bed" beats "spacious interior". Mention the kitchen, the hob, the fridge, heating and hot water, and any extras such as solar panels, a bike rack or an awning. Specifics build trust; vague claims build suspicion.
Include the paperwork buyers worry about
UK buyers who've been burned before want reassurance. Mention the service history, the habitation check, the damp report, the MOT and whether the V5C is in your name. Here's what paperwork buyers need when they collect.
Be honest about faults
Every used van has something. Disclose damp, wear, unusual noises or cosmetic scuffs up front. An honest advert attracts honest buyers, and it stops the deal collapsing at the viewing when a fault you didn't mention gets found. A well-priced van with minor faults still sells; a misdescribed one wastes everyone's time.
Close with a clear invitation
End with what you want the buyer to do: "Viewing available any weekend in Bristol. Message me for more photos or to arrange a viewing." A clear call to action gets more responses than a listing that just trails off.
Proofread, then publish
Read your advert out loud. Check the dates, mileage and prices are consistent. If it's a long advert, break it into short paragraphs with headings — buyers skim.
Write the advert you'd want to read if you were buying. That's the whole trick.
Good photos plus honest, specific words are a powerful combination. Follow the photography guide, then list your van and you're ready to sell.
